Jake Morris Shows the Horsepower at Kentucky PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jim Foose
Tuesday, 07 September 2010
Going into the ASRS Camping World Truck Series Chase for the Championship, the contenders knew that the Morris brothers where going to be strong challengers for the title. Jake Morris, with a win in The Built Ford Tough 105 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers at the Kentucky Motor Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky proved that you will need to have a prefect chase to be able to challenge him for the Championship.

Jeff Lyden in the Lyden AutoBody Chevy once again showed that he had the best qualifying set up on the 1.5 mile tracks with his 2nd pole in a row in the 2010 season, both at similar 1.5 mile speedways. Also, like the preceding week at Chicagoland, Jake Morris put his Bojangles #24 Toyota on the outside pole.

Lyden’s stay at the top was short lived, when the #24 machine took the lead coming out of turn 2 on lap 1. By the time the field got around to complete the first lap, the pole sitter was in 4th position.

A rash of earlier yellow flags, resulted in variously strategies being used for pit stops and unlike last weeks 2 caution flag affair, this week fuel Mileage wouldn’t come into play. Tire wear and track position were deciding factors in this race.

The worse of the earlier cautions came on Lap 17, when leading truck, the #99 Harley Davidson Chevy of Derek Hart spun the tires on the restart, and tagged the #42 Camping World #42 Chevy of Jim Foose, causing him to spin in the front of the field. The #04 Braunablity Chevy of Marc Meyers stuck the #42 truck, causing Foose to flip at the start finish line. Also involved was #14 International Chevy of Greg Evans, and the #50 PEO Pros.com Ram of John Tenney. The #42 and #04 trucks were done for the night, while the rest continued.

Using pit strategy, the #22 Lowe’s Chevy of Justin McLeod found himself in the lead on a restart on lap 25, but the lead was short lived, when both the Morris brothers passed McLeod, dropping the Lowe’s Chevy into 3rd place.

Jordan Morris in the #18 Red Top Auctions Toyota took over the lead after the restart, but was quickly passed by Brother Jake who went under the #18 Toyota in turns 3 and 4 on lap 33.

The #24 Toyota stretched out 1.5 second lead, but the teammates of the #14 Evans truck and Wes Dobbs in the #4 Flex Fuel Chevy charged through the field after having to restart towards the back of the pack.  The #14 Chevy closed  to 3 tenths of a second, before a lap 58caution came out when the #10 Pepsi Ram of Steve Buhala and the #05 Havoline Ford of Robert Panko made contact in Turn 4, sending Panko into the wall. Since having fresh Goodyears was important, all the trucks came to pit road after the long run. The #24 Morris Toyota won the race off Pit road, with McLeod’s Chevy in 2nd after only taking 2 tires. The #14 truck restarted 3rd, and the #4 restarted in 4th.  Even with another quick caution and restart with 3 laps to go, Jake Morris was able to hold off the Greg Evans for the win, Evans make quick work passing Justin McLeod for 2nd. McLeod clocked in at 3rd, with the #18 Jordan Morris finishing 4th, and the #99 Hart Truck recovering from the lap 17 bad restart to finish 5th. Jake Morris extends his lead over Jordan Morris by 60 points.

After a week off, the ASRS Camping World Truck Series heads to The New Hampshire Motor speedway, in Loudon, New Hampshire for the TheRaceDayRaffleSeries.com 100.

Back in Black, Foose Rocks Riverside for Win PDF Print E-mail
Written by Marc Meyers
Sunday, 05 September 2010

For the last 2 weeks, Jim Foose raced a white Chevy Impala in the ASRS Outlaw Paintshop All American Series with little luck. For the trip to Canada’s Riverside Speedway, both him and teammate Justin McLeod both rolled out of the hauler Black Chevy Impalas. The change in color worked as the JF2 racing teammates took the top 2 positions in the McColl Racing Enterprises 100 with Jim Foose taking his first win at a track north of the Border.

In a normally tight race track , in which starting position is king, the Riverside Speedway wasn’t kind to the top  starters, as all drivers starting in the top 5 had problems in the event.

Pole Sitter Jordan Morris led the field to the green flag, but quickly had trouble in the #18 Southwest Toyota Dealers Toyota, hitting the turn 3 wall in the opening laps, after making contact with Al Hixon in the #1 Dearborn Transmission Chevy. The problems kept happening for the #18 Toyota, and he eventually fell out on lap 40 with mechanical issues. The outsider first row starter Skip Honaker in the #2 All Daytona Septic Dodge, had a little better luck, but still had issues with an earlier race crash, and finished the race 3 laps down in 9th.  The 3rd place starter Birthday Boy Jake Morris  didn’t even make it to the green, as the racing gremlins also got to his #24 RimzOne Toyota.

Race winner Jim Foose , starting 7th place in the Taylor Painting #42 Chevy took the over the lead on lap 40 after wrestling it from the #37 Ford of Robert Mathews. Once in the lead, Foose had to hold of challenges from both Mathews, and his own teammate Justin McLeod in the #22 McColl Racing Enterprises/Children Health Foundation Chevy. Mike McClure made it a top 3 Chevy sweep, finishing 3rd in the #21 FRW Speed Equipment Impala.  Collecting his first top 5 of the season by finishing 4th was Black Trawick in his #56 Fur Affinity Ford, and the #37 Matthews Ford finished 5th.

The top 2 positions of the ASRS Outlaw Paintshop All American Series points tighten up considerable as Justin McLeod closed within 5 points of the leading Jake Morris with his 2nd Place finish. Greg Evans is 3rd, Jim Foose in 4th with his win, and the Aaron Burnet is in 5th place.

The next race in the calendar is back in the USA, as the ASRS Outlaw Paintshop All American Series goes to Virginia, for the South Boston 100.
