The ASRS TheCrewShirt.com Series hosted it's first open setup race of the season and put on a good showing for the fans at Auto Club Speedway. Jordan Morris would sit on the pole for the 75 lap event. The race would be slowed as soon as the green fell for a spin by Josh Woodham. Morris held on to the lead as the race resumed green flag action.
There was no shortage of action on the track as several cars would end up spinning into the infield or brushing the wall. Contact between Jim Foose and Jeff Lyden made for a long night for Foose. Aaron Maynard and Josh Woodham were sent spinning into the frontstretch grass, and Eric Bannenberg also took a ride through the grass a few laps later. The race officials were being rather lenient with the yellow flags, as the caution was not displayed for any of these incidents. The battle up front saw Johnathon Caddell slowly chipping away at Jordan Morris's lead. Caddell capitalized on a mistake by Morris with the turn 4 wall and took the lead on lap 17. The two remained within a few car lengths of each other for the next 15 laps, but Caddell slowly began to pull away.
A rare treat for the fans saw green flag pit stop action, with Caddell stretching his lead over the field to over 11 seconds. A spin by Josh Woodham would bring out the events only other caution flag on lap 58. All of the lead lap cars opted to pit and make adjustments, setting up a 3 lap dash to the checkered flag. Caddell got a great restart on a sleeping Morris, and would cruise to victory. Jordan Morris, Greg Evans, Dave Mott, Jr. and Jeff Lyden would round out the top 5.
The ASRS TheCrewShirt.com series next stop will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Las Vegas 120.
