Getting StartedWelcome to the American Sim Racing Series! Here you will find some of the best racing on the internet and some of the top drivers from several different backgrounds. We strive to be #1 at everything we do and expect our drivers to act in a mature manner. We welcome everyone to compete in the American Sim Racing Series. Bob Stanleys Racing Savvy is a great read prior to joining any online racing league. But before hitting the track there are a few things you need to do. 1) Read the Rulebook now we know it is long and we do not expect you to memorize it, but please take the time to read through it at least once. 2) Fill out the ASRS Entry Form. Please check the Driver Roster BEFORE submitting an entry form. If a number is listed on the Driver Roster it is already reserved. Please keep in mind, we use the Common Number system which means the same number must be used in ALL divisions. NO ENTRY FORM = NO RACING!!! 3) Once you get an email back from ASRS, your registration fee is due (the registration fee is payable through the ASRS Store link on the ASRS website). At this time you may fill out the RPM membership, be sure to use the name that will appear when logging into an IP race and not your Sierra ID, most common is your First Initial followed by your Last Name, mine is J Foose. When putting in Car Numbers you MUST have the CORRECT car number that was assigned to you by the ASRS Officials. DO NOT FILL OUT AN RPM MEMBERSHIP UNTIL AFTER YOU SUBMIT AN ENTRY TO JOIN ASRS! ALL CARFILES WILL BE UPLOADED TO RPM, be sure to upload them under the CORRECT division. For All American Series and RPM Late Models, upload them to ONE or the OTHER. 4) It would be a good idea to sign up for the ASRS Mailing List, which uses a Yahoo! Group to send emails to drivers regarding events, announcements, special league promotions and more. Your membership will have to be approved by an ASRS Official. Please make sure your name is listed in the comments section so we know who you are. 5) While you are signing up to compete in the American Sim Racing Series, make sure to stop by the ASRS Forums and sign up. You will need to use a valid email address during sign up for the Forums, don't worry we will not sell your email address to anyone and only the League Officials can see it. Since you are there, why not post a little about yourself in the "General Discussion" forum. 6) So now we have taken care of all that stuff, now its time to race. Be sure to practice before attending an event, the tracks we use are listed on the Files page. Also make sure you have the correct mod installed while at the Files Page. 7) Before each event, the ASRS Officials hold a "Drivers Meeting" via voice chat software known as Teamspeak, Teamspeak is available at http://www.goteamspeak.com/. If you are late or do not attend to the drivers meeting you will not have a chance to take a qualifying time and will be forced to start at the tail end of the field for the race. The Driver's Meeting is a short refresher on the basic rules and any key facts for the evening such as where lapped cars will go when being lapped, where to enter the pit road at, where to merge out of the pits, any changes from the previous event and is also a great opportunity to ask questions and get to meet the officials. The Drivers meeting normally starts at 8:15 PM Eastern time, and lasts about 15 minutes. 8) Now its time to actually get on the track with the other drivers. Please give plenty of room and signal your entrance and exit of the pit areas during all sessions. This is Practice time, not Crash & Bash time. Use it wisely, you will get somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes of practice time. Unless something major happens that will be all before running your qualifying lap. 9) Now its just you and the track, One on One. Please do not chat at all during this time as many drivers are trying to turn that perfect lap. 10) Now its time to run a Warm Up session if the race schedule allows. Trucks, All American Series, East Series & Pure Stocks do not have a warmup session, as the vehicles are "impounded" between Qualifying and the Race. These are fixed setup events and therefore do not allow changes to be made on the vehicle. The Late Model Challenge Series will have a 5 minute warm up session, again this is practice time, not Crash & Bash time. 11) Now its time to race, please get in your race vehicle as quickly as possible. We recommend using the "F2" box with the space bar hit once to show the actual distance someone is infront of or behind you, a mirror is also recommended. We do run a Full Pace Lap for almost every event, unless the track does not allow it. Please be courteous and cautious during this pace lap, we don't want to see the field get wiped out on the pace lap. So now you are strapped into your computer chair for the next hour or so (sometimes longer), its time to go racing. Remember we RACE BACK TO THE CAUTION FLAG, but we do not race back tot he pace car, you need to slow your race vehicle down in a controlled manner AFTER reaching the Start/Finish line. Also remember the officials will not clear a black flag under normal circumstances, it is your responsibility to listen to your spotter on who to stay behind, how fast to drive down pit lane, etc. Please spread out under the caution flag, we have been using a "Stagger rule" Odd positions (1,3,5,7,9) to the inside, while Even positions (2,4,6,8,10) will be on the outside. However this does not give you permission to block someone from pitting or force them to pit. When the 1 to go signal is given, lights go out on the pace vehicle, and the safety lights around the track will go off you need to bunch up for the restart in line. A distance of 0.2-0.4 seconds is sufficient, remember not to brake check the guy behind you or ram the guy in front of you. You may not pass until the start finish line, unless a car in front of you indicates you may or if an accident occurs, always pass to the RIGHT before the line or the sim will issue a Black Flag for passing to the left. 12) That should be all you need to know, don't hesitate to ask someone for help if you need it, we are always happy to help someone if they ask. If you do not know, it is better to ask then to get penalized. We look forward to having you as an ASRS member, we hope that you find everyone friendly and competition great as you race with ASRS!
