Aaron Burnett takes Checkered in Economy run at Chicagoland.
Written by Marc Meyers
Tuesday, 31 August 2010
The 100 miles of the ASRS Camping World Truck Series EnjoyIllinois.com 100 was on the border of the distance that a tank full of Sunoco racing fuel could make for the truckers. The correct answer to the question of “to Pit or not to Pit” after a lap 3 caution, made the difference, as Aaron Burnett won the 2nd visit of the Truck Series to the Joliet, IL 1.5 mile tri-oval.

As for most ASA Camping World Truck Series races in 2010, qualifying was real close as Jeff Lyden’s Lyden Auto Body #39 Chevy took the pole with a time of 31.101 seconds to the outside first row starting #24 Toyota  Jake Morris’s 31.143. The whole field was close, as less then 9 tenths of a second separated the first truck, and the last qualified truck in the field.

The first of only 2 cautions came on Lap #3 when the #05 Havoline Ford of Robert Panko, spun out coming of turn 2. With the race distance being so close on fuel mileage, the question was, to pit now to top off your tank so you could make the distance wait for either another caution flag, or hope your truck could make the distance with out stopping. Among the trucks who pitting where race contenders  and teammates the  #22 Total Lubricants Chevy of Justin McLeod and the #42 Office Deport Chevy of Jim Foose. This turned out to be the wrong move.

After the quick caution for Panko, the race resume on lap 7, but the green was short lived, when the #08 Elite Paint Designs Ram of Ty Hester clipped the apron in Turn 2, and was tagged by the #40 of Kevin Pearson. This resulted in #40 hitting the #10 Pepis Ram of Steve Buhala, and both hitting the outside wall. The #14 International Chevy of Greg Evans, the #94 Chevy of Nick Chaboudy, the #5  Mcdonals of EJ Mcdonell, #56 Conaway Ford of Blake Trawick, and the #99 Harley Davidson Chevy of Derek Hart where involved. The #22 Mcleod, and #42 Foose entrees also received heavy damage in the indecent after having rejoined the race at the back of the field after their pit stops. Under This caution, the top 6 chose not to make a pit stop.

When the green flag returned on lap 11, the #24 Jake Morris Toyota led, with Jordan Morris’s #18 Northern Tool and Die Toyota in 2nd.  The top 6 trucks started pulling away in a draft and separated themselves from the rest of the field. The #24 and #18 Morris brother trucks battled with the #27 Panera Bread Chevy of Chris Peugeot for the lead, until on Lap 14 the #18 Truck scrapped the outside wall. Jordan Morris was able to continue but was never a factor in for win after this.

On lap 21 the #51 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Toyota of Aaron Burnett made his way pass the #27 and #24 trucks to take over the led. Since the rest of the event was ran under green, the race became a question was of fuel mileage for the top 6 that didn’t pit. Of those trucks, only 1 couldn’t make it, with the #18 Jordan Morris machine running out of fuel with 2 laps to go.

The #51 Toyota did have enough fuel to take the Victory for his 2nd ASRS Camping World Truck Series win of the Season.  Chris Peugeot got his best finish of the season, by finishing 2nd, Skip Honaker brought his #2 John Deere Ram home in 3rd, with the #24 Morris Toyota, and #99 Derek Hart Chevy rounding out the top 5.

After the 2nd race in the ASRS Camping world Truck Series “Chase for the Championship”, the point’s race is still tight with Jake Morris leading Jordan Morris by 30 points. Jeff Lyden is 3rd only 40 points back, Jim Foose is 43 behind, and 5th place Marc Meyers is only 67 points out of the lead.

Next Week, the ASRS Camping World Truck Series finishes up their summer swing of 9 races in a row with the “Built Ford Tough 105, Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers” at the Kentucky Motor Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky. Jake Morris looks to defend his title at the 1.5 tri-oval, but a field of strong trucks is expected to enter, making the task difficult for the Toyota Driver.

Jake Morris dominates at North Wilkesboro Slugfest
Written by Marc Meyers
Sunday, 29 August 2010
Jake Morris dominated from his outside first row starting position for a victory in the ASRS Outlaw Paintshop All American Series Wilkes County 100.a race that was slowed 9 times for yellows for a number of incidents.

Greg Evans, in his #14 E-ZWayAutoSales.com Chevy led qualifying beating Jake Morris’s #24 RimzOne Toyota by less then a tenth of a second to the pole position. When the Green flag flew at the start of the race, there were going to be two major themes to the night. The #24 Toyota was going to be up front, and there was going to be a lot use for sledgehammers, as teams had to make repairs to bent up sheet mental under caution. .

The first of the 9 yellows flew on the first lap, when the #7 Matt Vaade Ford tagged the #42 Taylor Painting Company/Speedway Action Images Chevy of Jim Foose in turn 3, causing the Foose Chevy to Spin around.

In an evening of themes, Foose having to make his way from the back of the field became the 3rd theme, from a number of incidents, including a major one on lap 36. The #51 Tom’s Pizza Toyota of Aaron Burnett clipped the Foose Chevy, and sent the #42 machine spinning down the frontstretch. The #04 Furglars Hardware/Callahan Auto Parts #04 Chevy of Marc Meyers was also collected in the crash, with both Foose and Meyers receiving damage.
Through all the cautions, and even with a pit stop on the Lap 36 yellow, Jake Morris kept in the lead of 100 lap affair. Only a yellow flag pit stop on lap 62 was when the #24 Toyota lost the lead to the #14 Chevy, since Evans decided not to make a pit stop. Once the green Flag came back out, Jake Morris took advantage of the fresher rubber, and grabbed the led from the #14 for good on lap 69. Morris lead the rest of the way for the win. The #2 All Daytona Septic Dodge of Skip Honaker finished second and Jake’s brother Jordan, who made his way back to third, after spinning on lap 18. Aaron Burnett was 4th, and Justin McLeod had a quiet night, finishing 5th in his Total Lubricants Chevy.

After 4 Events, Jordan Morris leads Justin McLeod by 60 points, with Greg Evans 20 behind McLeod. Jake Morris is in 4th, and Aaron Burnett rounds out the top 5.
The next event for the ASRS Outlaw Painstshop All American Series is “North of the Border” for the Mccoll Racing Enterprises 100 at Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia.
